There are many smartphones that vie for getting the supreme limelight in the annual Mobile World Congress, and this year that spotlight may be pointing at the LG G5. It appears that LG’s newest smartphone has attracted the most stares and appreciation. Said mobile device was even crowned the Best New Mobile Device during this year’s event. It competed with the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Sony Xperia X, HP Elite x3, and the Xiaomi Mi 5.
The LG G5 Was Given the Crown of the Best New Mobile Device During the MWC 2016
So how much of a beauty is the LG G5? It packs top-of-the-line hardware specs and it even comes with some pretty innovative features. A couple of which are the dual-camera setup at the rear of the phone and its modular design. The latter feature lets users enhance the camera even further, or improve the battery capabilities more by swapping a module to which LG provides.
Many who have tried out the G5 at MWC 2016 have taken an immediate liking to the smartphone as form and function take center stage. The company also introduces “LG Friends,” in which is a series of companion devices for the G5. In other words, these are the modular devices that you can swap in-and-out of the new smartphone.
Within the LG Friends line, there is the LG CAM Plus which is the convenience of a DSLR-like grip along with the addition of physical keys. It also boosts up the phone’s battery capacity to 4,000mAh so you can take more time shooting stills and videos.
There is also the LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play as part of the LG Friends line. With this modular unit, audiophiles will enjoy a massive boost in audio performance from the smartphone.
What’s surprising about the new LG high-end phone is that it has ditched the app drawer with a single layer app-interface. This is much like what you can see in Apple’s iPhones. In other words, all your apps can readily be found in the home screen. This is somewhat as a hit-or-miss as not many would want their apps to immediately appear on the home screen as it can look cluttered.
There are other unique features that are now brought to the LG G5 which include an always-on feature (which is not quite unique since Samsung also shares that with their Galaxy S7) and an 8MP secondary camera with a wider angle. Overall hardware specs and performance boast significant upgrades that will make it no wonder why this phone was crowned best of show.
