Epson Home Cinema 1440 1080p 3LCD Projector Review – Something Old and Something New

Published: 18 December 2015Updated: 21 October 2016

With the Epson Home Cinema 1440 1080p 3LCD Projector, it mixes some things of the old and some things that are found within new generation technology. It includes some connectors that are largely limited to data projectors of today. Also, it does not have 3D support, which can be a major letdown for some. For the aspect on what’s new for the device, it is able to deliver more light than your usual home projector. It blasts a brightness of 4,400 lumens, which means it can display clear pictures even under a sunny day.

The Epson Home Cinema 1440 1080p 3LCD Projector Delivers a Bright Light But Has no 3D Support

But when talking about the brightness of a projector, more so if we are to talk about the Epson Home Cinema 1440 1080p 3LCD Projector, it is a relative term. That being said, how bright can Epson’s offering go? One aspect that might complicate the answer further is that its native resolution is 1,920 x 1,200. At this resolution, however, it blocks the light on the remaining 10-percent of the chips’ areas for a 1080p input.

In the company’s defense, Epson states, that the 4,400-lumen rating is based on the full 1,920 x 1,200 image resolution. This means that only 90-percent of the light (or 3,960 lumens if that’s how you want to put it), can make it to the screen.

As per the SMPTE, or the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, that is still enough brightness to project images in theater-dark lighting settings for a 246 to 333-inch image. This is assuming when the screen being used is 1.0-gain. Still, even when there is still a moderate ambient light, the projector can still display images that are bright enough for a 163-inch image. To put things in simpler terms, the projector is more than bright enough.

For the most part, images being projected by the Home Cinema 1440 1080p 3LCD Projector is excellent overall. For most key individual areas, which include color quality and color balance, it displays more than satisfactory quality in these aspects. Still, there are minor noise in scenes that would tend to bring out said problem. But these are largely eliminated when turning on the Noise Reduction feature and cranking that up to the highest level.

The Epson Home Cinema 1440 1080p 3LCD Projector is great for watching movies within a theater-dark environment. It can even substitute your TV when you want to watch your favorite shows in a larger screen format. Even at daytime viewing, the images being beamed can stand up to the light when there are lots of light streaming through the windows.
