Definitive Technology W Studio Micro Review – Great Sound Meets Snappy Design and High Price

The first question that may pop up inside your head is, why would I buy the Definitive Technology W Studio Micro when it’s this expensive? Perhaps the first reason is its improved styling. It uses metals and wood instead of the usual plastics that are found in cheaper soundbars within the market. Furthermore, compared to other systems, it combines an AV receiver and multiple speakers setup. Plus, it is sleeker which makes it have a lesser footprint, which is perfect for those who want a more minimalistic approach for their home entertainment systems.

Definitive Technology W Studio Micro Review - Great Sound Meets Snappy Design and High Price

With the Definitive Technology W Studio Micro, You Get Amazing Sound for a High Price Point

The Definitive Technology W Studio Micro is a nice-looking, low-slung soundbar. Its height is less than two inches and it has futuristic angled lines. It is made with military-grade aluminum at the top over a plastic speaker housing. The wireless subwoofer that comes with the package is bulkier than the soundbar itself. However, it is still certainly attractive enough to keep in plain sight rather than having to hide it behind a piece of furniture. It has a crosshatched vinyl wrap with a large “D” logo.

As for its remote, it’s nothing like you’ve seen in other standard remote controls out there, either for your television or for a sounbar. It takes a few cues from Bose’s remote as of late. It is made to resemble a candy-bar design with a black, rubberized finish. Even though everything seems to be already laid out in front of you, there are times when it is hard to find some buttons in the dark, especially when it comes to the volume rocker. Why is this so? Because the remote is not backlit.

Once you hook up the W Studio Micro soundbar, there is no longer further need for any setup or calibration requirements. It’s as simple as plugging and playing. Should you need to, you can adjust the bass level and the center channel volume from the remote itself. The adjustment range is quite wide so you can turn the dialogue way down, or if you want, have it way louder than the norm.

Also, you don’t need to be an audiophile to notice the soundbar’s amazing audio quality. There is a sheer clarity of the sound which is immediately obvious right at the onset. For instance, for high-action movies, the dialogue is unusually clear even at portions when there was a lot of explosions and gunfire going on.

Still, the Definitive Technology W Studio Micro is not a cheap audio device. Hence, it may not be immediately accessible by everybody. But if you’ve got the cash, know that it will deliver exceptional sound quality, has a modern minimalistic design, and has the most features that soundbar purchasers can drool over.
