Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is, well, obviously the remastered version of the original title. The original game was released back in 2008 for the PlayStation 3 and it did receive very positive reviews when it was initially launched. It has the artwork, the narrative, and the “BliTZ” tactical strategy that were particularly applauded by many fans of the title. However, despite it having praiseworthy reviews, the game did not sell well in the U.S. for the PS3, albeit the high-def PC release that was launched in 2014 did a bit better. Last year, the announcement for a remastered version will be made for the PlayStation 4 and now we get a glimpse of the game. The trailer highlights the game’s official story.
Valkyria Chronicles Remastered Makes Its Way to the PlayStation 4
As with the PC release of the game, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered will have the HD “canvas” engine. What’s different is that it now runs on 1080p and 60-frames-per-second for the PlayStation 4. All the available downloadable content (DLC) will also be directly bundled in with the game’s release. This will include the side story campaigns for Edy’s Mission which are called “Enter the Edy Detachment,” as well as Selvaria’s Mission entitled “Behind Her Blue Flame.” There is also the six-mission challenge for Edy’s Detachment included from the onset. There is also an additional expert mode for skirmishes, and this new PlayStation 4 version will now add trophy support.
In Valkyria Chronicles, players will be controlling a diverse group of characters who have to defend against an invading imperial army found in 30 different battlefronts. What makes the narrative so engaging is that the characters are just a group of peaceful, neutral citizens that formed a militia to defend their homeland from invaders. Each of the characters have their own unique traits and individual backstories. You will be able to choose the ones that you can take along on each battle.
Character classes are divided and some examples are the engineer, sniper, and the scout. As for the soldiers, they have their own abilities and stats, but they have their own unique modifier called a potential.
Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is a turn-based game that uses action and command points to order troops around. These commands include charge, retreat, relocate, and find cover. Your characters can either be on the offensive or defensive depending on your chosen strategy. Progressing means you gain experience points to upgrade your character classes. The game will be released on May 17th of this year.
