The King of Fighters XIII: Steam Edition Review – The SNK Classic Comes to the PC

The King of Fighters XIII: Steam Edition is a port from SNK’s classic fighting game which has now become compatible for computers everywhere (that is, of course, with the required hardware specs). If you competitively fought with your friends using Kyo, Iori, and other familiar King of Fighter characters, then you will have a grand taste of nostalgia with this one. What’s great about getting this PC version is it will already have all the console DLC, all the features found in King of Fighters XIII: Climax arcade, and boosted graphics to fit PC-centric rigs.

The King of Fighters XIII: Steam Edition Was, and Still is an Excellent Titles

If you’re familiar with other KoF games, then you’ll know that The King of Fighters XIII: Steam Edition will feature 3-on-3 combat. It is similar to that of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but you can’t tag a character in and out of the current battle. Instead, you will pick a set order of characters to appear when each one of them gets defeated.

Aside from the popular Arcade mode, there is also an accompanying story mode wherein the game will portray a silly tale of ascended beings while they interact with the world’s best martial artists. In this game, the Story mode is seen as only an extra feature as the real meat here is in its videogame mechanics.

For those who are new to the title, then know that The King of Fighters XIII (PC) is not for the faint of heart. If you’re the type of casual gamer then you won’t find any “casual” here. Even if you are a fan of fighting games but are a fan of executing basics and supers, then KoF XIII has a more complex playstyle than that.

You will get a whole slew of Cancels such as Drive Cancels, Hyperdrive Cancels, and Super Cancels. These will let you quickly exit a move so that you can execute damaging combos for loads of damage to your opponent’s health bar. However, keep in mind that your opponent can do the same to you so better watch what you’re doing. In other words, play fast, think fast, but still do things carefully.

Sadly, The King of Fighters XIII: Steam Edition will most likely appeal to loyal fans of the series and a few others. It does have its flaws but fans of the game can look past it. For fans of the genre but want to discover what it’s like to play one of the best fighting games in history, then check this game out.
