It has been a while since we last heard of Tekken x Street Fighter but in a recent update from publisher Bandai Namco, they have told fans that the status of the upcoming cross-over fighting game has not yet been cancelled and is still in development. However, there is still no date as to when the game is going to be released so we might have to wait a little while longer.
Tekken x Street Fighter Might be Stuck in Development Hell at the Moment, But Bandai Namco Says it is Not Cancelled
Bandai Namco announced with regards to Tekken x Street Fighter states that “It is still in development, but as far as a release window we haven’t really decided on that.” The previous statement was told by Michael Murray, senior game designer of said title, and he told this to Official PlayStation Magazine UK.
The senior game designer’s sentiments are one with that of Katsuhiro Harada, of whom Tekken fans know as the producer and director from Bandai Namco. Last year, Harada told Famitsu that the game is already pretty far in its development stages. Specifically speaking, the producer from Bandai Namco said that the character lineup for the Tekken x Street Fighter cross-over has already been decided a long time ago. Furthermore, it has been said that they have already completed the work on the moves, systems, and polygon models of each character.
Additionally, Harada also states that when it comes to marketing, they need to time the game’s launch right so that it can bask in the limelight and not to be overshadowed by other big names in the videogaming industry.
This cross-over title was announced back in San Diego Comic-Con in 2010, and it has already been about 6 years since its first reveal. The long wait is now making a lot of fans pretty anxious and are wondering if the game will ever come out. There are a lot of games in the industry that got stuck in development hell and they might not be able to come out of it. We can only hope that this cross-over game does not share a similar fate.
The companion title for Tekken x Street Fighter, Street Fighter x Tekken, was also announced back in 2010. However, unlike the former, the latter was actually released in the market for several years now. For the other title, fans have only taken a glimpse of its logo and some screenshots that went along with it.
