SteelSeries H Wireless Review – Good Sound for the Seriously High-End Market

If you have the money to burn, and are looking for a high-quality gaming headset, then you might want to consider the SteelSeries H Wireless. It is a device that includes just about every feature that you can imagine as far as gaming headphones go. However, its price would immediately let many gamers shyly back away from the product.

SteelSeries H Wireless Review - Good Sound for the Seriously High-End Market

The SteelSeries H Wireless Gives Plenty in the Sound Department, But it Comes With a Massive Price Tag

Once you open the box containing the SteelSeries H Wireless, you will immediately be met with a plethora of goodies. Within the standard packaging, you will get the headset (of course), a USB controller, a spare battery, and just about every cable you need (those are miniUSB to USB, Xbox 360 chat, optical digital, mobile phone, and 3.5-millimeter audio). It also has a charger and socket adapters for all major plug socket standards. It’s the sort of packaging you would expect from a device with a steep price.

At its core, this is a wireless gaming headset. Still, you can plug any standard analogue or digital audio source into its USB controller. Another feature is that it has a sharing port on the headset. What this does is it can be used to plug in a second set of headphones. This particular functionality is great for quiet multiplayer sessions.

What makes the SteelSeries H Wireless Gaming Headset shine is the accompanying USB hub. It incorporates all the extra connections, control system, and a cracking display to manage all its features. It also serves as the device’s battery charger.

While it promotes utmost goodness in the feature department, it is a wonder why SteelSeries did not include Bluetooth connectivity for this particular unit. Hence, you can’t connect wirelessly to phones or tablets, and it doesn’t have multi-speaker surround sound functionality. However, these may not be actual deal-breakers since the headset is made for gaming.

Sound quality can be compared with its comfort – its good. When it says it’s good, it’s not what you would expect from a very top-end unit. It has an over-zealous bass that sometimes drown out other areas of the audio spectrum. The overall result is definitely not for music listening, but on the other hand, this overpowering bass is perfect for gaming. Gun-fire and explosions are marked with great clarity, and the effect is further enhanced when you switch to surround sound mode.

Ultimately, you may want to get the SteelSeries H Wireless for nothing else but the purpose of gaming. When it comes to music listening, you should look elsewhere. This is, indeed, a great headphone for gaming but that is if you don’t mind spending a lot for it.
