What is the Schlage Sense? It is a Bluetooth-enabled touch display lock that you can control with your iOS device. For its design, it is a single cylinder deadbolt lock that looks slick and very modern. It has a large illuminated keypad with a built-in tamper alarm and a low battery alert. It is accompanied with an app to which users are able to add users, access codes, and even set up schedules when the unit will lock or unlock by itself. It will only work with iPhones, iPods, and iPads, but it is apparent that it is made this way since it can be controlled using Siri.
The Schlage Sense Only Works WIth iOS Devices
The Schlage Sense comes with two distinct looks – one is the classic Camelot style and the other is the modern Century style. The latter is about as identical as the compay’s own Century Touchscreen Deadbolt Lock. It has that same satin nickel finish, as well as the same dimensions as it measures in at 5.0 x 3.0 x 0.6-inches. It even has the same keyed cylinder. The touch screen interface is silver now rather than the previous black, and it measures in at 2.5 x 2.3-inches for its height and width.
Its interiors contain a thumb turn lever for locking and unlocking the door manually, along with a speaker hole for the alarm. There is also the company’s logo in the form of a button to which will silence the alarm should it go off. Its interiors have the same finish as its outer casing, except for a black top which will slide off to expose the device’s battery and circuit board.
In order to unlock the Sense using the keypad, first press the Schlage logo. Doing so will illuminate the backlit touch display. After which you can enter you access code. There will be a green check mark that will appear when the code that has been entered is correct. Otherwise, a red X will be shown. Users are able to have up to 30 access codes.
Using the app to unlock or lock the device is quicker and easier. The Sense iOS app is nothing fancy but it is very user-friendly. The coolest thing about it is it will respond to Siri’s voice commands with the use of Apple’s HomeKit technology. Simply saying “open the front door,” or “unlock the front door” will let Siri unlock it for you. You can also let her close it if you wish.
The Schlage Sense is only compatible with iOS devices but it doesn’t mean that you can’t operate this modern lock if you don’t have such a device. However, to make full use of all its features, an iPhone, iPad, or iPod is required.
