The Netgear Nighthawk X4S D7800 comes off as a super-fast, high-end router. It has its own modem, which means you can immediately connect it to your mine connection to get rid of all the standard ISP kits, well, that is unless that is you are current on fiber broadband then that is completely different story. The router offers AC2600 Wi-Fi and is one of the fastest routers available on the market.
The Netgear Nighthawk X4S D7800 is a Premium Router, and Its Price Shows It
For the design of the Netgear Nighthawk X4S D7800, it looks very close to the Nighthawk X4. For those who do not know what the Nighthawk X4, it looks like the Batman of routers. It is bathed in all-black with numerous angles that make it something to show off rather than make use of its true purpose – giving you wireless Internet technology.
At the front of the Nighthawk X4S D7800 router, there is a pack of LEDs that will blink brightly during its operation. Thankfully, there is a switch on the rear that can be flipped to turn all LEDs (except the power button) off. This is useful if you have to place the router in a room where you spend a lot of time in and are constantly annoyed by a modem or a router’s constantly blinking lights.
There are four antennas protruding on the X4S router. This gives it an imposing look as the device is fairly large overall. It is the type of device that you will immediately shift your eyes onto it once you enter a room. But it is a more decent look than what the D-Link DIR-890L AC3200 can offer.
Many will be attracted to purchase the X4S (that is, before taking a look at the price tag) because of its promise that it can deliver up to 1,733Mbps of speeds from its 5Ghz band, and 800Mbps from the 2.4Ghz one. To test that, however, you will need a second router that will act as a bridge to monitor the transfer rate between the two devices.
But despite its dominating looks, the X4S is, without a doubt, one of the highest-spec routers available in today’s market. It has a quoted bandwidth of AC2500. Theoretically speaking, the router will be able to transfer data up to 216MB/sec.
While everything does look good on paper, and the performance of the Netgear Nighthawk X4S D7800 shows much promise, perhaps interested buyers would be looking at its price tag more than just what the device can offer.
