If you haven’t tried to be fully immersed in playing a game, then you haven’t tried Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. This is the first, jungle-based expansion for the MMORPG. However, if you don’t like the initial playstyle of the original game, then you’re not going to like anything in the expansion either. In Guild Wars 2, there is a streamlined form of combat in which there are some people that don’t take too much of a liking to it. However, if you do like Guild Wars 2, then there are loads to look out for in the new expansion. These may even let you forget about the outside world.

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns Review - What is This Thing You Call Outdoors?

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns Will Let You Forget About What’s Outside

How come there’s an emphasis on forgetting about what’s outside your room when you start playing Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns? Think about this – in order to unlock all the masteries, you will need 49,530,000 XP. That is a whole lot of events to cover and an even greater amount of monsters you need to kill.

In the Heart of Thorns expansion, it introduces four new maps in Magus falls. This is the area that is west of the Asuran capital city of Rata Sum. This is a new region that is dominated by a lush green environment full of trees and wood. The jungle setting is a lot darker than what you see in other MMOs. It is also less vibrant, which means that it is more dangerous as it is a breeding ground of tough monsters to deal with.

Don’t get caught up with the beautifully rendered environments here as there are a lot of things to do and monsters to slay. However, if you want to take a breather from battling all the time, then taking a stroll on the winding paths is an absolute treat. However, herein lies one of the challenges as these paths are very difficult to navigate around. You may find yourself getting lost in a heartbeat. But that may be expected as it is, after all, a deep forest.

Each of the new maps have difficulty levels that will be scaled depending on the number of people who participate in each of the areas events. Therefore, the more people are inside the map, the harder the monsters will be to defeat. Players are advised to form parties and use the map chat to organize, plan, and execute a lot of things, even on the fly.

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns gives a whole lot of new features that will keep fans of the game immersed even more than what it did on the original title. It restructures Guild Wars 2 in a way that it is now open to even more expansions in the future. If you’re a completionist and want to get all of those masteries, then let’s just say that you better have the numbers to food delivery services at the ready.
