This new update has been long awaited by gamers that are still hooked with the 2nd installment to the Diablo franchise. In fact, the last update prior to this one was received four years ago. It has been a long time coming, but this 2nd iteration now gets new features, some changes, and gameplay improvements.

Diablo II – Not Yet Left Out as The Game Receives a New Patch

Diablo II Gets a New Patch After Four Years

The Diablo II patch, known as 1.14a, has recently been released and it focus on system glitches introduced by modern operating systems. As an added bonus, the patch includes an installer for the new Mac OSX. Hence, you can finally retire your old Mac PowerPCs if you still have them for the sake of the game. The patch notes from Blizzard entertainment states that “there’s still work to be done, but we’re making improvements every day.” This could be hinting that this won’t be the final patch for the game and that there could be more to come.

Even the Diablo III is already being played by a lot of gamers around the world, there are those who still couldn’t let go of the nostalgic appeal that is the 2nd installment to the franchise. In fact, there is still a large community for the game. It is with this reason that Blizzard has opted to update the game to run smoother in modern platforms.

So what are the changes, new features, and improvements in the patch? In terms of features, there’s really not much to talk about unlike the previous patch (the 4-year-old 1.13d) had. However, the latest update primarily has something to do with compatibility issues, especially those who are playing the game within the latest operating systems.

Specific changes and improvements include not needing to run the game in Windows XP mode anymore as compatibility for Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 is now complete, and the first client run will migrate all the saved characters from the previous version to avoid running into issues pertaining to Windows system admin changes. As mentioned earlier, there is a Mac OSX installer found in the patch and the game is now compatible with 10.10 and 1.11.

However, Diablo II is still not compatible with Mac OSX ver. 10.9 and earlier. For Mac users that want to join in on the nostalgic fun should pay heed in executing the OSX installer bundled with the patch if they want to play the game.
