It is hard to get a hold of a good gaming laptop nowadays that is compact in nature, and that search continues on as the MSI GT72S Dragon Edition presents itself as one of the larger devices on the market. But even though MSI’s offering for gamers that are avidly out-and-about, it does offer a surprising mix with regards to its hardware specs – it uses a PC-grade GPU.
The MSI GT72S Dragon Edition Comes With the Nvidia GTX 980
The problem with many gaming laptops in the modern market is that they still use laptop-grade GPUs, but that’s not the case with the MSI GT72S Dragon Edition. MSI’s gaming laptop uses the Nvidia GTX 980 which is a pleasant addition to hardcore gamers. Therefore, it wouldn’t matter anymore that you have to sacrifice quality when gaming outside of your own gaming rig when you have to spend vacation back at your parent’s house with a standard laptop. With this beast, you will still get all the graphical and performance level of a real gaming PC that may even let your mouth water with excitement.
In terms of its exterior looks, there may be some that will love them while others may not. The GT72S Dragon Edition is perhaps one of the gaudier laptops in the market. It has a striking red chassis with a dragon graphic that is far from subtle. For added flair, the dragon’s eye will light up whenever the machine will turn on. This is to introduce a “cool” factor whenever you’re using the unit.
It has a backlit keyboard that does impress, but not so much as to become the leader in its class. The keyboard keys introduce a fairly decent amount of travel and are neatly spaced out, even if there is the addition of a full numpad keypad to the right just like a regular computer keyboard. Still, the keyboard does not particularly feel robust, and intense gaming makes you wonder if the keys can hold out.
The machine also comes with a 17.3-inch Full HD display which is perhaps one of the best screen that you can find in a gaming laptop. Graphical test scores came out good, if not excellent. While color accuracy is fair enough, its levels are good enough to be used for gaming, but not for using it as a design tool.
While the MSI GT72S Dragon Edition presents itself as one of the largest gaming notebooks in the market, it does have decent scores especially in the gaming department. Graphic and performance qualities are superb, but the dragon motif may not be for everyone.
