If you’re in the market for a decent projector that will allow you to enjoy your images, games, and videos on a larger-screen format setting, then perhaps you might want to check out the Epson EB-U04. It is an LCD projector with a capability of beaming Full HD resolution footage and images, and it is placed at a reasonable price point (as far as LCD projectors go). The company even pitches that the projector can be used for either home entertainment purposes or for office presentations.
The Epson EB-U04 is Performs Well for its Price
Out of the box, the Epson EB-U04 isn’t ugly. This is chiefly thanks to the glossy white top cover. But overall, its design is made to be more functional than something that you would boast to your friends. It has a smaller footprint and it squats down to a surface pretty nicely. It also has a noticeably more compact lens.
A plus size of its relatively petite size is its is quite portable. There is very minimal trouble from bringing it from room-to-room across the house or within an office. This useful trait is further enhanced with the inclusion of a padded carry bag within the package.
As for connectivity, it is also pretty good. There are two HDMI ports at its back and there is also a USB port that is capable of playing multimedia files to further improve the claims of this potential workhorse. Said USB port will allow for playing of multimedia files. There is also a VGA input and the projector has one of the HDMI ports to have the ability to handle MHL mobile phone playback.
But when it comes to the performance of the Epson EB-U04 projector, it does perform pretty decently for its size, but don’t expect too much from it either. Its performance definitely leans more towards the business presentation portion of things. So much so, that its image performance will only appeal to casual viewers.
The main problem that undermines Epson’s offering from being the top of its price class is the image’s lack of contrast. To be more precise, it has the inability to deliver believable blacks. Appearances of dark scenes that have a constant shade of blue/gray mist will lead to some shadow detailing to be lost.
Overall, the Epson EB-U04 is a solid, but not amazing, affordable projector. Still, its lack of contrast means that there its rivals can do better as the EB-U04 struggles to convince itself to become a home-entertainment unit.
