2016 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class Review – The Premium Compact Crossover SUV

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class is smaller than the Mercedes-Benz GLC, which is the company’s other compact crossover. The vehicle rivals all-terrain vehicles from other premium brands such as the BMW X1 and the Auid Q3. The GLA-Class is based on the same platform as the CLA compact sedan.

What’s There to Expect for the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class?

Mercedes-Benz was busy with the updates last year, and the results of their hard efforts lead to the creation of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. There is a dual-zone climate control feature, and a push-button start/stop (which is standard in the GLA250 model). There is also an upgraded infotainment system that can easily be accessed within the automobile’s interiors. Speaking of the infotainment system, it has been increased from the old 5.8-inch display to a 7-inch one. The vehicle is also pre-wired for Garmin MapPilot.

The car’s rear has a rearview camera that allow the ability to show 180-degrees. There is also a new power adjustment feature that comes within the front passenger seat. This functionality, however, is a standalone option and will not be readily available as part of the basic purchase.

Another feature for the new Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class is that it has a Dynamic Select function. This is an upgraded suspension mode feature. Furthermore, front seat cushion length can now be adjusted for added comfort. These all come with other features to the delight of the car’s occupants.

Looking at the GLA-Class’ engine, it has now been boosted by 20 hp and 18-lb of torque. The fenders also get “Turbo 4Matic” badging, and the car now has an adaptive suspension. There is also a “Race Mode” in which the vehicle will change some of its settings to get to a top speed of 167 mph.

Despite the car’s compact dimensions, the GLA will be able to accommodate two average-sized adults within the rear quarters. At the front are the driver and the front passenger seats where the comfort levels truly shine. The sport seats for the AMG version are even bearable for long drives. Enthusiasts will be more than happy to know and feel how they hug the sides of the torso.

There are also other safety and performance features for the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. Driving performance, on the other hand, is not particularly thrilling but it has a more than decent punch to it. The 2016 model is a more powerful version of its predecessor. However, this also means that not everyone will be able to take a liking on this vehicle.
