Putting a “For Sale” sign on the 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H Mustang would be an error and would it immediately be removed. Why? Because the vehicle will only be available for rent starting late May of this year. The vehicle is a throwback to the famous Shelby GT350-H “Rent-a-Racer” program back in the 1960s.
The 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H Mustang Will be Available for Rent Soon
The 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H Mustang looks back at the 1966 Ford Shelby GT350-H to which was a legend the moment it drove into the scene. Joe Conway, Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International and CEO of Shelby American, states, “10 years ago, the 2006 Ford Shelby GT-H earned the same ‘rock star’ status when it was introduced at the New York Auto Show.”
Conway also stated that they have been working closely with Ford Performance in the creation of the 2016 GT-H Mustang, which is dubbed as “the most excising Mustang ever to wear the iconic Hertz black and gold livery.”
It has already been 50 years since the late Carroll Shelby and Hertz found the opportunity to let their clientele sit in the driver’s seat of a high-performance special edition vehicle from Shelby’s. The new Mustang was supplied by Ford with V8 engines and mostly automatic transmissions. Shelby then added the boost in performance as well as with the style. As for Hertz, they gave the public access to a unique driving experience that would be their “Rent-a-Racer” program.
The companies have aimed to give the 2016 model a classic yet muscular look with additional performance boosts. Doug White, Ford Performance Parts Manager, states that “Our goal was to give everyone a chance to add some fun to their travel with a distinctive American pony car.” Therefore, overall performance has been improved, handling has been sharpened, and the exhaust notes are “sweetened” in what the Parts Manager claims will provide the special driving experience to those who are longing to rent the vehicle.
As with its previous iterations, the 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H Mustang will be instantly recognizable, even from afar. It has several styling enhancements that is also seen to it giving a nod to its heritage. Each of the new GT-H models that will be available will have black exterior paint and a set of gold racing stripes. Those stripes are the hallmark of Hertz vehicles since the 1920s. Each car will also contain a Hertz Edition emblem found on the front fenders, and they will feature Hertz Shelby GT-G sill plates and a numbered badge.
