The Canon EOS 5Ds is More Than a 50-Megapixel DSLR

The Canon EOS 5Ds is More Than a 50-Megapixel DSLR

With the Canon EOS 5Ds, photographers are able to enjoy taking really crisp photos with its 50-megapixel imaging sensor. It was quite a few years back when people were saying that they don’t need to have anything higher than 12-megapixels. But when Nikon reignited the race for DSLRs to have higher imaging sensors, Canon was not just about to give up the throne. In fact, recent reports state that Canon is already working on a 250-megapixel camera.

The 5Ds is the 5Ds R’s sibling. It is the much awaited response for Canon fanboys and fangirls when Nikon released their D800 and D810. Sony was even part of the competition as they released the Sony A7R and A7R II. With all the competition involved, Canon was not just about to sit this one out. One of their best was the EOS 5D Mark III (which is what the 5Ds was based on). The Mark III was a great all-rounder and it can take on a massive array of various photography challenges. But when competitors are all gearing up with their own latest wares, Canon answered back with the 5Ds.

Getting to Know More About the Canon EOS 5Ds

A quick look at the specs for the Canon EOS 5Ds brings us the 50.3-megapixel imaging sensor, a full-frame (36 x 24 mm) CMOS sensor, 61  autofocus points, 5 frames-per-second continuous shooting on burst mode, maximum ISO of 6400 (can expand to 12,800), full HD video capture, a magnesium alloy construction, and the body is weather-sealed for added protection and durability of the whole package.

Looking at the specs, anyone who has ever used a 5D-type from Canon will feel completely comfortable with the EOS 5Ds. However, since it is an upgrade of the old 5D versions, it is not without its minor changes (even though the body of the DSLR looks very similar to its old predecessors).

For instance, the magnesium alloy material for the construction of the camera promotes “tank-like” feel to it. It feels and IS sturdy.

One thing arguably great about the Canon EOS 5Ds is that the shutter is quieter than other 5D-types. The D800 is also capable of producing crisp and incredibly nice photos, but its shutter sound is not that appealing. For added stability, the 5Ds has a reinforced chassis, a tripod lug, and a baseplate. With low-light capabilities, a higher imaging-sensor, and improved stability, the 5Ds is definitely more than just your premium 50-megapixel camera.
