Sentri is another product successfully crowdfunded from the connected-home product category. This is an all-in-one home-monitoring device which is similar to that of the Canary home security system in terms of function. However, the former device is in some ways even more capable to that of the Canary system, with a different form factor.
The Sentri is a Home Security Connected-Home Product That is Not Without Its Own Set of Downsides
Just like the Canary, the Sentri incorporates Wi-Fi security camera and sensors to detect motion as well as indoor air temperature, humidity, and indoor air quality. Furthermore, and still just like the Canary, this home-security system is able to send alerts when the device is armed. It will do so when it detects motion , and it also has a built-in accelerometer to indicate if the security system is being tampered with.
But unlike the Canary, the Sentri home security system has a battery backup in case your home will suffer a power failure. Still also unlike the Canary, this security system has no cellular failover protection. Therefore, if your Internet connection should go down, it won’t be able to send you alerts and you can’t even monitor the video it’s taking. Well, to be fair on the device’s part, monitoring live stream security videos would most likely require users to purchase a small monthly subscription for cloud storage.
While it has its fair-share of downside, installing it is an absolute breeze. The installation process are printed out on a 5 x 7 postcard. As for the device itself, it comes in a square plastic frame which can be mounted on a wall or it can be placed on a desk or countertop. There is also a plastic kickstand on the device itself which will pop out of its back if users would want to place it on top of a surface.
In addition to its mobile client, this security device has a 10.1-inch color touchscreen interface, unlike the Canary that solely relies on your smartphone. This does not only assist you in bringing a more modern look into a room, it will also present useful and pertinent information without the need to pull out your smartphone.
While the Canary can deliver FHD video, the Sentri can only produce 720p footage. But aside from its own set of downsides, overall performance levels are a step above what the Canary can offer, especially when talking about its touchscreen display interface.
