If you think that Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon is the same as with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon that has been released so many years before, then you are mistaken. The level of difficulty has been taken up a notch. Hence, if you’ve underestimated this game right out of the bat, then expect your Pokémon’s butt to get whooped right from the starting point. This time around, there is an essence of deep strategy and skill thrown into the mix. Therefore, it is wise to plan your moves first rather than going headstrong into battle.

Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon Has Nailed the Challenge Quota it Needs

So what do you do in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon? Battle other Pokémon without the need of trainers. Be an explorer with the use of cute, and sometimes interestingly shaped critters to save the world from a mysterious plague that is somehow turning everyone into stone.

The game delves into a terribly short but randomly generated dungeons in which you have to explore with three of your chosen Pokémon. This is what you’ll be spending most of your time doing in this game. However, apart from its Nintendo DS counterpart, you will now be faced with some stiff competition. While the previous game was somewhat easy on the difficulty level, this time around, you will need to tweak your brain a bit to beat out challenges.

To start, enemy Pokémon can easily out-level your party. That’s not all, if you’ve known your Pokémon games then you’ll know that the higher the level, the nastier the skill sets. Therefore, enemies from the different dungeons will come at you with their own skills and special attacks while your own Pokémon may just be standing there taking all that damage.

Various negative effects are still apparent in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon (3DS). Some of your enemies can poison you, put you to sleep, paralyze you, freeze you, or even hurt you before you can even see them.

To fight back, you need to search for magic stones that can help you get stronger, navigate better, and even become immune to certain status effects. The challenge? These stones shatter quickly right after you enter a room so it will only last the duration of your current adventure. This will give you a bit of strategizing before you enter and leave a dungeon.

With a stronger difficulty, Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon aims to appeal to kids of older ages. These are the ones that have grown with the Pokémon franchise ever since they were wee children and still love the titles to this day. However, it should not be stated that younger generations cannot enjoy this game because they can, it’s just a matter of not getting frustrated at times.
