Philips BDM3490UC Review – Make an Impression

If you are looking for a computer monitor that would immediately let guests go “Wow!” at first glance of it, then its best to check out the Philips BDM3490UC. It sports a 3,440 x 1,440-pixel resolution, has a 21:9 aspect ratio, and has an IPS LCD panel. Therefore, it makes for good viewing angles, delivers sharp images,  and has a design that can turn heads. The company even claims that it covers 99% sRGB colors, therefore it is a good option for those who involve themselves in graphics-related work. However, it is placed in a hefty price point, especially if you consider other 27-inch non-curved monitors.

Philips BDM3490UC Review - Make an Impression

The Philips BDM3490UC Has the Design and Features to Justify its Price

Right out of the box, you would immediately be impressed by the Philips BDM3490UC because of its looks. It has a curved screen that is imposing enough, but that look is then complemented by a striking glossy white back, a thin metal base, and a chrome stand. In other words, everything about it is pleasing to the eyes.

There are a lot of competitors that sport a similar elegant look, such as the LG 34UC97. LG’s offering is arguably the better looking one, but nonetheless, the BDM3490UC is still quite the looker as well.

The monitor measures in at 826 x 479 x 220-millimeters, and with its size you will need a fair amount of deskspace to accommodate a display this big. However, it’s not higher as compared to other monitors because the stand does not offer any form of height adjustment. Instead, said display stand will only offer a few degrees of tilt. There’s also no rotation either, which is quite a shame considering it does promise to give great color accuracy and portrait mode would make it a total boon towards graphic designers everywhere.

Even without turning this monitor on, you would immediately know that this is a quality display. When you do turn the device on, those promises are kept wondrously. Colors offer a vibrant punch but still look natural. The contrast between the dark and the light elements are strong but either element don’t step over the other. The panel is finished with a matte covering which keeps most reflections at bay, even despite of its curve.

Ultimately, the Philips BDM3490UC is a very, very nice display. It is able to combine top-notch image quality and place all of its offerings inside a slim and stylish design. Connectivity options are good, and perhaps the only real reason why many would not go for this particular display is because of its price.
