While the original model was reigned as the budget champion, the Moto G 3 is still able to deliver what its predecessors are meant to offer – above average performance at a wallet-friendly price point. It also boasts an untarnished Android experience, but Motorola also placed a few tricks and features into the mix. For instance, the phone is now water resistant, and it can be customized with the use of the company’s own Moto Maker service, just like what you can take advantage of with the Moto X line.
The Moto G 3 Brings New Features Into the Mix While Still Retaining a Budget-Friendly Price
There is a slight bump in the price for the Moto G 3 is you want to take advantage of those new features. Hence, it can no longer be called the budget champion as the company’s own Moto G now has that title. Nonetheless, paying a bit extra will induce better advantages as compared to its lower-priced siblings.
In terms of design, there is practically nothing that separates the Motorola Moto G 3 from its direct predecessor. It still has that 5-inch screen, and it still has those nicely curved corners. For the plastic trim, ports, and buttons, they can still be found in the same place. This overly simplistic design won’t turn heads, but it is also a minimalistic dream.
However, the obvious change would have to be for the earpiece and the speaker. They are noticeably narrower than before. It should also be noted that the speaker slots for its predecessor were small plastic inserts that stick out, this time around it has hollow grooves. It is a potentially irritating design choice. This is because the hollow grooves can attract dirt and small debris and can veritably get lodged in them.
When you flip the phone over to its back, then there are more noticeable changes. The rear still has that gentle curve, but it now has the Moto X’s curvier top edge. Furthermore, the soft touch black plastic has been dismissed and in comes a textured, grippy plastic back that has a more reassuring feel.
Motorola gave this new iteration an IPX7 water resistant certification. This means that it can be submerged in fresh water of up to 1-meter deep for a maximum of 30-minutes. This comes as quite the surprise since many budget-friendly phones would not even think about placing water resistance as an added feature.
There are also a lot of areas on the Moto G 3 that have been improved, such as a better camera, as well as a better, faster experience. This makes it worth the extra cash that you have to spend on it.
