Of all the virtual reality games for the Oculus Rift that might leave you feeling woozy and disoriented, Minecraft would be the one to least expect. While there are many games for the virtual reality headset that have blazingly fast-paced action that can make you throw up because of vertigo, surprisingly this open world sandbox game can practically do the same.

Minecraft - Building in Virtual Reality Can Make You Sick

Virtual Reality Minecraft is Not Built From the Ground up But it is Still a Great Game to Enjoy

Minecraft, the pixel-art game, has been announced by Microsoft recently that it will be coming to the Oculus Rift VR headset by the time said device starts shipping to markets. The game does not promote a totally immersive VR experience as much as other games, but it should also be noted that this is a game that has not been rebuilt from the ground up just for this purpose. It is a perfect example of porting the game from the perspective of looking at a screen to play the game to a virtual reality experience. However, it is still not one without downsides.

The title has been known for its low-resolution graphics, but this is one of the reasons why many would immediately fall in love with it. However, experiencing it in virtual reality and it does feel more real than any other VR title that you can try. This can be due to the powerful gaming PC that you would be running the game on as it was not trying to render photorealistic graphics. Instead, the graphics engine of your gaming rig will focus on creating fluid scenes and the most responsive experience that you can get from moving around pixel blocks. If you are going to play this in a relatively powerful computer, then you can expect no stutters, blurs, or anything that feels artificial with the game.

Because of the conflict of a device trying to render photorealistic graphics but the game does not offer any, it can create an adverse effect to your brain. Simply put, your head will freak out. Since the game is originally designed to be played while viewing a screen, Minecraft in virtual reality tries to pull in both styles of gaming into one title.

Playing Minecraft with the use of the Oculus Rift will let your mind battle it out with the device’s controller constantly. There are many times wherein you might see yourself reorienting yourself especially when you take sudden or sharp turns. There may even be times wherein you might see yourself removing the headset and reaching for a barf bag.
