There is now an alternative to the C-Class SUV and that is the Mercedes-Benz GLC. The 250d variant is equipped with a 2.1-liter turbo-diesel four engine. It is also an all-wheel drive vehicle, and it has a combined economy of 5.7 l/100km. It is yet another SUV from the famous automaker, so should you just forget about the other sedans and wagons from the company altogether? The answer is no; you don’t have to throw all your “toys” away just for this. In fact, if you own a Mercedes-Benz C-Class, then do know that it is still a top-selling model in certain areas of the globe.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a Class Act on its Own
Even though you don’t have to throw away your C-class, or other automobiles that sport the Mercedes-Benz brand, the Mercedes-Benz GLC is not one to be ignored either. What the company had been missing all this time, however, is a mid-sized SUV with a similar size to that of its C-class. That dream is now made into a reality with the GLC.
The new GLC is introduced with three variants – the Mercedes-Benz GLC 220d, 250d, and the 250-petrol. The 220d and 250d are both equipped with turbo-diesel engines. So how does the new GLC compare to the company’s C-class?
While there are some who would rather evade the question, it seems that it is an inquiry that can’t easily be escaped from. Nonetheless, it is a good question overall as Mercedes-Benz does not usually align their crossovers very closely with that of their traditional passenger-car models. Still, the C-class is an equivalent model to that of the GLC, just as the automaker’s A-class is similar to that of the GLA. If you need further comparison, then know that the Mercedes-Benz’s GLE sits alongside their E-class.
When it comes to the price, do note that the 250d is more expensive than that of the C 250d estate. Looking at their size, the former is 40-millimeters shorter, 180-millimeters taller, and 20-millimeters wider than the latter.
So with this design choice, what is lost in the process? Arguably speaking, some design smarts; the GLC looks more like a posh Mercedes-Benz SUV that’s for sure. However, the C-class estate is arguably the better looking one and can turn heads better than the GLC model.
There are other comparisons that can be made with regards to the Mercedes-Benz GLC to the automaker’s C-class models. Nevertheless, the GLC is still a solid choice for anyone looking to purchase a mid-sized SUV from this known high-end car manufacturer.
