Mad Catz F.R.E.Q 9 Review – Aiming to be the Headset to Rule Them All

Looking at the features and specs on paper, the Mad Catz F.R.E.Q 9 pretty much has everything you would want in a gaming headset. It is of the wireless sort, and it works with every major gaming console. It even has all the audio features that you can think of. However, the tradeoff here is that it’s not the most comfortable device to wear on your head, and it comes with a less-than-striking design.

The Mad Catz F.R.E.Q 9 is More Functional Than Fashionable

Upon holding the Mad Catz F.R.E.Q 9, you would immediately take notice of its excellent build quality. It is solidly built and is constructed from top-end components. While it is comfortable to wear for quite a bit, the design of the headset is larger than others. It is also bulkier and heavier. As such, pretty soon you will feel the weight of the unit bearing down on your skull, especially during those long hours of gaming.

It also features buttons that can directly be found on the device itself. Hence, you no longer have to pull out a device from your pocket to control the volume or skip tracks. There is, however, and Android and iOS app that does allow you to take control of the headphones. Said app can also help you monitor the unit’s battery levels.

All its technology and build quality does not come cheap. It is still a gaming headset that may be out of reach for some gamers. It is placed with a price class that is at the very top of the gaming headset market. It can even compete with other known brands, such as Bose and Beats, in terms of price alone.

But even though it does boast excellent build quality and performance, the F.R.E.Q 9 is still far from perfect. Aside from it being big and heavy, its design is not the type that you would show to your friends and family. Simply put, it is not the most visually appealing headset out in the market. It does not scream “gamer,” and if design is a major factor when choosing a gaming headphone, then you might want to look elsewhere.

Overall, the Mad Catz F.R.E.Q 9 is still a high-quality headset that you can use at home. It is a great choice if you’re the type of gamer that makes use of multiple game consoles for your enjoyment. However, it may be less practical to use it on-the-go because of its weight, size, and looks.
