Kuna Review – The Home Security System to Light Up Your Home

Kuna is perhaps the most inconspicuous home security system you have ever seen. In fact, nobody would even expect that it is built for security. At first glance, it is just like any other porch lamp, but upon closer inspection, this lighting fixture doubles as a home surveillance camera. It can even take 720p videos with its Wi-Fi camera which will record everything that approaches your doorway. However, this ingenious design does come with a hefty price tag.

Kuna Review - The Home Security System to Light Up Your Home

The Kuna is One Part Lighting Fixture and Another Part Home Security System

Kuna also has a motion sensor, along with a speaker/microphone that will allow you to communicate whoever is at your door. It also has a very loud siren that can be used to scare the living daylights out of any unwelcome visitor.

The Kuna Lights come in three distinct styles: the Craftsman, the Traditional, and the Contemporary. For the Craftsman, it comes in either a bronze or black color with a square sconce. For the Traditional, it will still be available in bronze or black, but it will have a round sconce. Lastly, for the Contemporary, it has a more modern look overall and will only be available in black. The sconces attached to the device are made of cast aluminum and have frosted glass that act as light diffusers.

At the base of the lighting fixture hides the 720p camera. It has a 116-degree field of view with a motion sensor of up to 10-feet of range. The camera can be controlled via a swivel motion to achieve an optimal viewing angle. It also offers colored night vision without the assistance of infrared LEDs as it will use the porch light for illumination during the dark.

The speaker and the microphone, which are used for two-way audio communication, has a small LED status indicator. Furthermore, inside the weatherproof base are 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 radios, as well as the 100dB loud siren.

For the most part, this lighting fixture/security system can do pretty well for its required tasks. Recorded videos were pretty sharp as they are in HD, and it also produced good color quality during the day. However, nighttime videos were fuzzy around 10-feet out. However, the camera still does a wonderful job in detecting visitors during the night. However, and for some reason, the Wi-Fi connectivity seems to disconnect from the network from time to time, even when the lighting fixture is within close proximity of a wireless modem or router.

The Kuna is an innovative home surveillance system that will allow you to know who’s at the door without going outside. And with its very inconspicuous looks, nobody would expect that you’re already watching them at the safety of your own home. That being said, the frequent Wi-Fi disconnections does come off as a disappointment considering it a device promoting utmost security for the house.
