The Kidde RemoteLync (the company’s name is pronounced as “kid-duh”) is designed with a low-power rechargeable battery. Its battery life is made to last up to 3-months on a single charge. Even though it doesn’t offer live-streaming, and instead of a 720p or 1080p video, it only offers the standard VGA or 640 x 480-pixel resolution. There’s also no audio alerts or two-way talk functionalities built into the device. But even though it doesn’t or lacks any of the modern, top-end features that we see in many of today’s security cameras, it is still a great choice to have at home.
The Kidde RemoteLync is Alarmingly Decent
The Kidde RemoteLync makes up for its lack of features by delivering solid geofencing, very responsive motion alerts, an IFTTT channel, and a loud intruder-alert scaring siren. Even its short list of features, the price is still a bit steep for a security camera. But the feature set leans more towards security rather than those who want a more webcam-like offering.
For its size, it is small and portable, as it should be since security cameras should not take immediate notice upon themselves at the drop of a hat. It snaps easily onto the included flat magnetic base. Doing so will make the entire unit easy to stick on just about any flat surface. You can attach it to the bottom of the base and let it secure the house on top of a table, or you can easily attach it to a wall.
Included in the standard packaging of the RemoteLync Security Camera is a cheap-feeling plastic attachment. It is supposed to act as a camera cover just in case you want to block the camera’s view for when video-viewing privacy is the main concern at a particular moment.
Once setup is complete with the accompanying Android or iOS app for the security camera, the process from then on is pretty much straightforward. Apart from using the app to arm and disarm the camera, you can also enable its geofencing feature. Using this feature will allow the camera to arm and disarm whenever the connected smartphone or mobile device is “seen” within the camera’s range. This feature works extremely well for the camera.
The Kidde RemoteLync also works with other devices from the company. Overall, it is a very likeably camera that places its features into bringing more security into homes rather than becoming a portable webcam. The price is a bit hefty for a simple security camera, but it is certainly worth it.
