Although Joby is known for making the best known GorillaPod tripods, the company has already been looking at a steady lineup of other camera peripherals; now, they introduce as with the Joby Action Battery Grip. This looks like pretty much any battery grip that you see on the market, except that it is mostly covered in red than the occasional black exterior. The red portions are actually silicone which keeps your cameras from slipping out of your hands.
What to Expect for the Joby Action Battery Grip?
Attached on top of the Joby Action Battery Grip is a three-prong mounts which makes the grip ready for a GoPro camera-housing. Still, the company includes an adapter that will change the device to a standard 1/4-20 tripod mount. This means that it can be used for just about any small camera, or even your smartphone.
There is also a small door on the grip which has ports. These ports are a mini-USB and a full-sized USB slot. The former allows the grip to be charged as it contains a 2,600mAh battery cell. The latter port will let users charge whatever it is that they want to be charged. For many devices, Joby says that this internal battery will be able to provide up to three times the normal battery for a particular gadget.
Therefore, you can connect your camera onto the Action Battery Grip to charge your device even while you’re still capturing images. Hence, you won’t be caught dead in a scenario wherein your camera’s battery will die while you’re still shooting images or videos with it.
Even when this battery grip is not connected to a camera, it is just nice to know that it can add some juice to a smartphone or other device when you’re out and about around town. By the way, the output for the battery grip is 5 volts at 10 amp. There is also a threaded mount found at the bottom which can be used to let it mount onto a tripod. Therefore, this peripheral is very useful for shooting certain time-lapse images, such as capturing star trails (which requires an extremely low shutter speed).
The Joby Action Battery Grip is not the first battery-powered handgrip on the market, but it still has a very versatile design. Everything about the product is made from good materials which feels like it can take plenty of abuse. Hence, with a premium feel will surely come with a high-end price tag, which this action battery grip has.
