Immedia Blink Review – Too Basic

The Immedia Blink is from a startup company that launched a Kickstarter campaign for this particular device back in July 2014. They have raised roughly 500-percent more than their original funding goal. At that time, there weren’t many battery-operated security cameras that come with free cloud storage. Even more so when many security cameras with such a feature did not offer a reasonable price tag. It would seem that the industry had instantly caught up with the idea as its feature set is now a bit too basic in the eyes of many.

Immedia Blink Review - Too Basic

The Immedia Blink is a Security Camera With Features That Seemed Great at the Time of its Announcement

Now, there are many battery-powered and cord-free security cameras that have graced the market and not just the Immedia Blink. There are even lower-priced DIY cameras available now such as the Guardzilla, the iSmartAlarm Spot, and the Ezviz Mini.

Furthermore, the Blink Security Camera also misses out in a lot of features such as audio alerts, two-way talk, and also environmental sensors that can alert people in the surrounding area for immediate changes in temperature. It also lacks on-demand video recording, integration from other products, integration with IFTTT, or in-app rule setting. Even though its Wi-Fi connection does perform splendidly, the app has another story to tell in the form of one phrase – “System is busy, please wait.”

Using the app is not a happy treat as it is often laggy, which is a disappointment considering one of the known requirements for many security cameras of today is to have immediate access to a live feed. It doesn’t have such a feature, and using the app to view its recorded video can be very frustrating.

The company claims that they will add some of the aforementioned options in the future, but for now, it doesn’t offer anything of great value. To put it simply, this has now become a pretty basic camera even if it was such a hot idea at the time of its announcement.

It has a small, squarish design with round edges, and it only measures 2.77 x 2.77-inches. Right out of the box, there are included two lithium AA batteries, along with a stand to mount the device. Many security cameras of today already come with pre-attached stands. Therefore, this detachable stand makes it have an extra step during installation.

Even though the price for the Immedia Blink is just right, it doesn’t offer much functionality especially when you take a look at its competitors. It doesn’t support a lot of the basic features that other security cameras offer today. As such, it can be deemed that is now even more of a basic device than the norm.
