Asus ROG G752VT-DH72 Review – A Modern Overhaul With Some Remnants of Old

The Asus ROG G752VT-DH72 is the second generation model to the original G751. While the predecessor was built like a tank, this time Asus made it slimmer, albeit only slightly. Even though both ROG machines feel as if you can just stick a long handle into it and use it as a shovel because of its bulk and size, they do perform admirably as both can take on just about any modern videogame you throw at it.

Asus ROG G752VT-DH72 Review - A Modern Overhaul With Some Remnants of Old

The Asus ROG G752VT-DH72 is Large, Hefty, and Powerful

With the Asus ROG G752VT-DH72, it gives the Republic of Gamers brand its biggest facelift in years. To start, it now has Intel’s latest Skylake generation of processors. However, it uses the same 900-series mobile GPU from Nvidia. Still, this may not actually be a bad thing since Nvidia hasn’t released a new mobile graphics chip for quite some time.

What’s news here is that the G752VT-DH72 has a lower GPU than that of its predecessor. It has the Nvidia 970M as opposed to the 980M used by the G751. However, it balances it out with a 128GB SSD/1TB HDD combo. There’s also a very generous helping of a 16GB of RAM. A DVD optical drive is also included with the unit.

Aside from some hardware improvements and changes, it also sports a new look. Gone is the matte black finish and in comes a warmer palette of brushed aluminum. There are also red-orange lights and copper accents can be seen here and there. These are clearly touches that are inspired by sci-fi designs. Take for instance the carved lines that look more like otherworld-like hieroglyphics just above the keyboard and the speaker grilles.

Its new chassis is also slimmer, but only by a bit. Also, it is still way too  big and heavy to carry around. It weighs 8.8-pounds, so even if you do manage to fit it inside a relatively large backpack, you’ll get tired in no time carrying it around. Hence, this gaming machine may be meant to be permanently stationed at a desk at your home and carried out once in a while for the occasional LAN party.

While it retains its heft and size, it also means that the power that the Asus ROG G752VT-DH72 brings for games is still top-of-the-line. You can basically play a lot of graphically-intensive games and this gaming machine can still deliver. Overall, it brings an excellent approach to modern gaming.
