While Huawei is more known to produce great smartphones, they are now looking into getting some of the virtual reality action with the unveiling of the Huawei VR headset. This headset was announced at the same time with the new P9 smartphone.
The Huawei VR is the Company’s Answer to the Growing Line of Virtual Reality Headsets From Competitors
The aptly named Huawei VR is the Chinese tech firm’s answer to the growing trend of mobile manufacturers to have enter the virtual reality sector, especially when talking about the Samsung Gear VR. Rather than having its own built-in screen, uses would have to slot in their P9 or P9 Plus smartphone in a slot found in front of the headset. The smartphone would then work as the display as well as the computer “brain” for the headset.
Furthermore, and much like the Gear VR, it has a trackpad located at one side. Using the trackapd will let you use the phone while it is still slotted within the headset. You can also use it to adjust focus and volume controls.
Both versions of the Huawei P9 sport a 1080p display so you can only get a maximum of Full HD resolution when using the Huawei Virtual Reality Headset. However, it might provide to become a middle-ground between that of the Google Cardboard and the Oculus Rift. However, and like the Samsung Gear VR, Huawei’s virtual reality headset is only compatible to their own smartphones, and specific ones at that. Much like the Gear VR wherein you can only use it with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
What sets Huawei’s offering apart from the rest, however, is the sheer amount of content that will readily be available at launch. It is reported by Engadget that it will come out with 4,000 videos and 40 games that are already ready to be played. There are also hundreds of panoramic pictures and virtual tours that you can immerse yourself into.
At the time of writing, there is still no word pertaining to the details on the Huawei VR headset’s release date or its price. Therefore, loyal fans of Huawei would have to wait until they get to divulge such information to the public. But for those who can get early access to the headset, you will have to make do with the limited amount of offerings brought about by the device for a while. This is because developers are still getting around creating more content for the unit.
