The Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 Scanner is the successor of the ScanSnap S1500. It offers an array of pleasant enhancements. For instance, it is now faster as compared to its predecessor as it is rated to scan at 25 pages per minute (ppm) as compared to the S1500’s 20 pages per minute. It now also supports scanning to a mobile device through a dedicated iOS or Android app. It also supports direct scanning with the use of several famous cloud-based sites. Its menu is also enhanced and the paper feeding has been improved up a notch.
The Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 Scanner is a Great Performer in Many Aspects
Usable with either a PC or a Mac, the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 has the same bundled software for both operating systems. There is, however, one exception, and that is Adobe Acrobat XI can only be used within the Windows version. This scanner can be connected to the computer with the use of a USB cable (which can also be plugged into a USB 3.0 port), or with the use of wireless connection through Wi-Fi. It has the ability to scan to Evernote, Google Docs, SugarSync, Dropbox, and Salesforce.
To scan, you can use the accompanying computer software or a mobile device that has either the iOS or Android operating system. Furthermore, users should take note that the ScanSnap iX500 Scanner can only be connected to one computer or device at a time. In order to switch to another unit, you have to first connect the scanner through a USB cable then run the mobile setup utility on the new machine.
It also has the ability to send scans through Wi-Fi to an iOS or Android mobile device with the free-to-download ScanSnap Connect Application. The unit also comes with a built-in dual-core CPU which allows for scanning directly via Wi-Fi to a connected mobile device without the presence of a host computer. Simply put, it works as a standalone Wi-Fi scanner.
In terms of performance, the iX500 works good. It has optical character recognition (OCR) technology with the combination of Abbyy FineReader for ScanSanp 5.0. It is able to read text documents that are down to 8 point in font size without any error. Furthermore, when using the Arial font, it was perfect down to 6 points in font size.
The Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 is a very capable scanner for home or for small-office use. Scanning speeds are matched for simplex and duplex scanning and it can even do well when it comes to business card scanning.
