Epson EX5240 XGA 3LCD Projector Review – Presents Solid Data Image Quality

Published: 3 February 2016Updated: 14 February 2016

At its core, the hardware and feature offerings of the Epson EX5240 XGA 3LCD Projector makes for a good beamer for data images. It presents solid data image quality and also has a good performance with regards to displaying videos. It has a decent brightness level, along with a 2-watt sound system, which makes it a great companion for a small room. But this particular projector lacks 3D support, but may not be an actual deal-breaker since most data images don’t require such a feature anyway.

Epson EX5240 XGA 3LCD Projector Review - Presents Solid Data Image Quality

The Epson EX5240 XGA 3LCD Projector is a Solid Overall Performer

In terms of design and in features, the Epson EX5240 XGA 3LCD Projector is almost identical to that of the EX5250 Pro. It only differs primarily when it comes to brightness ratings. The EX5240 has a brightness rating of 3,200-lumens, whereas the EX5250 has 3,600-lumens. Aside from that, the main colors for the body are different as the EX5240 is finished with glossy white whereas the other model is glossy black.

Other than these differences, the Epson EX5240 does not come with a Wi-Fi adapter straight out of the standard packaging like the EX5250 has. There is a Wi-Fi adapter available for the EX5240 but it is sold separately. Therefore, if you want to beam images over a network, then you would have to rely on a wired connection to do that.

The EX5240 is an LCD-based data projector by heart. It has an XGA (1,024 x 768) native resolution, and its brightness rating is suitable for small to medium-sized rooms. Its dimensions are reasonably small and light as it comes into the market with measurements of 3.2 x 11.7 x 9.2-inches, along with a weight of 5.3-pounds. Therefore, moving it from room-to-room poses no particular problem.

When it comes to displaying data images, this projector performs quite well. It can project a 55-inch image (measured diagonally) from approximately 5-feet away from a screen. Its brightness levels also mean that it stands well when displaying images within ambient light.

For video quality, it still offers a pretty decent performance. The device is suitable for showing mid-length clips as part of a presentation. Also, since the projector is LCD-based, it is practically free of rainbow artifacts.

Ultimately, the Epson EX5240 XGA 3LCD Projector is a great companion to have within a small classroom or conference room. It does provide the basic set of features to beam data images with great quality. Still, the inclusion of a Wi-Fi adapter right out of the box may make this unit even more worthwhile.
