It’s another year and we get another COD game in the form of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. However, the previous statement is not a form of gripe. If the COD franchise is a well-oiled machine, then Black Ops is the replacement gear that keeps the mechanism going smoothly. In this year’s COD game, it introduces new, yet minor changes to the Call of Duty franchise. While there are features, they somehow feel a bit lackluster that only fans of the franchise will only come to know and love.
Is Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 a “New Game?”
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 marks the FPS franchise’s goal in reaching several different directions while being able to obtain vastly varying results. The newest iteration to the popular first person shooter begins on a promising note as the specialists from the game are covered in the screen. The characters displayed are the soldiers that will protect humanity’s future. They are a team of specialists clad in titanium alloy armor while brandishing what seem to be their multi-million dollar weapons.
Within COD: Black Ops 3, there is a new layer of customization involved within the game. Players still have the familiar loadout system with 10 slots to spend on weapons, equipment, and items. However, specialists carry a little more nuance.
Each of the characters within the game will carry a power weapon or a special ability that will charge several times within a match. Players, however, will be forced to choose between either of the two choices. For example, there is The Outrider, which will enter bouts with the Sparrow compound bow. Said bow will launch exploding arrows into the enemy’s ranks. Other than that, the character can equip the Vision Pulse ability instead of going for the bow. This ability will reveal nearby enemy silhouettes, even enemies that are hiding behind walls. Picking an option is a matter of what role you want to play during the match.
While the game does look quite similar with previous iterations, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is still that tempting carrot tied to a string and a stick being held in front of a donkey’s face, and you can guess where we’re at. What this means is that even though we know that it’s not going to be an entirely new gaming experience, many gamers (especially those who are fans of FPS) will still find themselves purchasing this videogame without a second thought.
