Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 Review – Primarily Portable

When you think about headsets, the last thing you would probably think about is there portability, but that’s not the case with the Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7. These are headphones that are seriously designed for being portable. They are also placed in a category designed to accommodate Hi-Res Audio files. This combination ultimately places it into many audiophiles’ “To Buy” list.

Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 Review - Primarily Portable

The Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 Presents Portability and Awesome Sound

With the Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7, it does not set new standards in the style department but it does bring audio that’s higher than satisfactory levels for real enthusiasts to use at home, and maybe even outdoors. But it is placed in a price class that’s not easily accessible for many. Nonetheless, when you do get a hold of them, then know you’ve got a good pair that will satisfy you for years.

At a design standpoint, the ATH-MSR7 looks and feels like a DJ/studio headphone but modified to become more consumer-friendly. The headband is narrower, and the earcups are a little less vulgar as what might be seen in studio-type headphones. The shape is reminiscent of some of Sony’s top style headphones.

It is made almost entirely out of plastic, but the outermost portions of the earcups are coated with aluminum. This is to make it give a bit of a higher-end feel, and this makes it nicer than the cheaper ATH-M50X.

When putting it on for the first time, the headband will feel a bit on the hard side, but over time, it will only bring comfort. The headband, as well as the earcups, use memory foam. This shapes itself to the head in a more intelligent fashion than what you would get from a standard foam. This is why the foam tends to be hard the first time you put it on, but that feeling will disappear after a little while.

Portability is the main feature that the company is trying to sell for this headphone. There is a carry case included in the standard package, and dual cables that can be used either for home or portable use.

When it comes to sound quality, it can safely be said that the headphone is placed as one of the best in its class. Audio is leaning towards the more accurate side of things. Bass response is just slightly increased so that it doesn’t push back other parts of the audio spectrum. Overall, the sound balance is kept beautifully neutral.

The Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 performs a good balance between comfort, sound quality, and portability. It has an outdoor-friendly design which makes it one of the top choices for audiophiles everywhere.
