Astell & Kern AK T8iE Review – The First Tesla Technology In-Ear Headphones

As the title clearly explains it, the Astell & Kern AK T8iE are the first pair of in-ear headphones that are made with Tesla Technology. It means that the company decided to team up with the iconic German headphone maker, Beyerdynamic, to assist in squeezing in a special Tesla driver into the device’s teeny-tiny body. So what does this technology have to offer? A better, more balanced audio performance with a higher level of sensitivity and a wide range of frequency. However, the price of getting a pair will make your wallet weep.

Is the Astell & Kern AK T8iE Worth All That Money?

There is no doubt that the Astell & Kern AK T8iE are a premium pair of headphones, and we’re not just talking about its insanely luxurious price tag for the compact audio-listening tech. They are good-looking when worn as A&K claims that each pair is handcrafted, and you will immediately get the sense that this is, in fact, the case.

The glossy ceramic-like finish on its exteriors just screams luxury. Also, there’s a little nod to both manufacturers as there is an inclusion of both A&K and Beyerdynamic logos found on the outside of each earphone.

However, the design is certainly… interesting. A&K has decided to opt for a “conch” look so they are shaped similarly to that of a shell. When you think that this is all about being different from other in-ears in the market, they serve another purpose as to being able to fit more naturally inside the ears.

When it comes to the audio department, the AK T8iE is able to deliver a crisp base, crystal-clear highs, and well-balanced mids. However, audio quality is not what you would be expecting to be “blown away” by it. Don’t get it wrong, it does sound good, but not good enough to beat out the competition or justify its price tag.

However, what really promotes the device’s high-end profile is when you play back high-resolution audio or stream Spotify in its highest settings. When you do, the bass response will be velvety warm and does not intrude on those well-balanced mids.

Still, for a steep sum, the Astell & Kern AK T8iE might stay in your wishlist for a while longer rather than something you can get on the fly. It does offer cutting-edge audio-listening technology, but the sound quality is not likely to win the top award. Still, if you have the money to burn and you want a great-looking pair of in-ear headphones, then this is it.
