The Monster SuperStar Blaster is your 21st century boombox and it goes the current trend as wireless Bluetooth speakers are gunning for the “small but powerful” title for quite some time. This one, on the other hand, takes a different path. To cut the story short, it is one large portable speaker.
The Monster SuperStar Blaster Gives Floor-Rattling Bass That the Company Loves so Much
To start, the Monster SuperStar Blaster has a design fit for the modern age. Still, while it is fairly large – scratch that, it is big – it is also has a chunky carry-handle. Even though it is made for the 21st century, it still bears a striking resemblance to the boomboxes found on the eighties era. As a matter of fact, the standard unit is even rather understated.
During the good old days, boomboxes have a bunch of knobs and switches. This time around, the SuperStar Blaster sports a rather tasteful metal mesh. All of its buttons can be found on one end to provide a cleaner look. Buttons are minimal as well, as you will only get the power, volume up and down, and Mode. It does make sense to have these buttons alone since most of the work done for the speaker will be controlled with a connected phone, tablet, or media player.
On the unit’s other side, there are ports covered by rubber. Monster claims that the unit can withstand a bit of water splashes but it should be noted that it is not IPX certified. Therefore, it is better to keep it away from any of the wet stuff, at all. Peel away the water-resistant layer, and you will get the power port, a 3.5-millimeter input jack, and a USB port for charging phones or tablets. Along with these ports, there is also a 3.5-millimeter microphone input so the unit can act as a PA system for any outdoor activity.
Drivers for the speaker are placed on both sides. Furthermore, the angular design of the device means that the speakers fire at a slightly upward angle. There are also rear drivers which can reflect off of a wall for an extra kick out of the bass. The company even calls this effect the “V-Sound,” and it is all about cranking up low-end frequencies. Turn the Blaster’s volume up to its maximum and the sound performance is deep and very powerful with no visible distortion.
The Monster SuperStar Blaster will be available in an array of models, including one with a built-in torch, and there are even others with lighting effects. It is said to become available come Spring 2016, and it has a pretty hefty price point (which is quite considerate considering its size) right off the bat.
