The Naim Audio Mu-So adds a bit of beauty into music streaming services such as AirPlay, Spotify Connect, Bluetooth, and uPnP. However, at its price point, it will make you break the bank. It has a superb, stylistic design which is coupled with a premium build quality, which should be considering the cash you have to shell out to get it.
The Naim Audio Mu-So is Less of a Speaker But More of a Modern Work of Art
The Naim Audio Mu-So has a remarkable heavy wooden cabinet which is made with a layer of anodized aluminum. Said aluminum layer is made with an elegant brushed finish. This contrasts with the wavy black grille found at the front. The company also considers audiophiles who do not want the color black on their audio listening devices. Therefore, they offer the Mu-So in other colors which are Deep Blue, Burnt Orange, and Vibrant Red.
The entire unit sits on a mirrored acrylic base. This base lights up at one end where it will subtly highlight the company’s logo. There is an extruded heatsink found on its back, which is somewhat a chink in its overall design, but it does keep the device cool.
However, the grand finale (in terms of its design) is the large volume dial which is placed within the top surface, along with an illuminated display in the middle. Apparently, this volume dial alone took months to perfect and it is very clear why; as it turns, there will be a ring of light around the dial’s edge to indicate the volume level. This piece of engineering masterpiece is indicative to the Mu-So Surround Sound System and its luxurious approach.
When you take a look what’s behind the front grille, you will find two large racetrack bass drivers, two silk down tweeters, and two custom mid-range drivers. These are all placed on the outside to aid in audio dispersion. For its woofers, they use a bass reflex system with ports located a underneath both ends of the cabinet.
Each of the six speakers are powered by a 75-watt amplifier, thus totaling to 450-watts of audio output. This kind of power is policed by a 32-bit digital signal processor, which has a running software fine-tuned by the expert engineers at Naim.
Overall, the Naim Audio Mu-So has an incredibly beautiful design and powerful audio output which gives its debut an unrivaled success. However, its high price means that not everyone can enjoy this culmination of physical beauty and powerful sound.
