If you’re a fan of JRPGs but don’t want the repetitiveness of the trend of these games to tend to have near identical plot lines, then best to stay away from Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey. The mobile game (available for the iOS) is just like many other JRPGs out there. As soon as you start the game, you will be engulfed in a narrative that is akin to a soap opera. That being said, there is no real explanation as to what is currently happening with the story. However, even though the story tends to be confusing, the gameplay still holds a lot of promise.
Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey is Your Typical Mobile JRPG
Plot aside, Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey is easier to digest everywhere else. There are loads of specific quests that are designed to secure your in-game kingdom’s future. Much of your time spent within the game is spent with exploring different vast areas while riding on the back of a huge gryphon. You will dart along different battles that are obviously there since they are marked with swirling black holes. This also means that there are no random encounters in the game.
Battle system is a simple turn-based one and slaying a variety of different monsters that block your path will be your one and only task. Monsters are based off of real creatures, such as rats, while others are just downright bizarre in design.
These are essentially the core of the Orcanon Odyssey and its gameplay. There are a selection of different moves that will be picked from a wheel-like structure. In order to play each move, you will need to hold your finger down onto the icon and drag it over to the enemy of your choosing. Some of these moves will strike hard at your opponent but will sometimes leave you vulnerable to counterattacks.
Success of the battles will largely be based on your ability to know your opponent’s strengths and weaknesses. You need to play the right moves accordingly, which can sometimes be an annoyance as a large portion of the moveset are attack-based and defense-based abilities aren’t clearly stated.
Even though the plot is very generic, gameplay is simple to pick up, and battles can be won quite easily, Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey is a game you would still want to download. If you are a fan of JRPGs and would want to spend some time doing something while waiting for someone inside a coffee shop, then this is it.
