The Jawbone UP3 is an upgraded version of the UP2. It is a fitness band that competes with big names in the market, including Fitbit. Looking at it at first glance, it has a design that is similar to that of a friendship band. This time around, it is sturdier and feels more like a premium device worn around the wrist. Thankfully, it can also be worn alongside your wristwatch. This makes the device all the more useful. Still, with premium build quality meets a premium price tag.
The Jawbone UP3 Presents Itself as a Friendship Band That Can Track Fitness Activity
The Jawbone UP3 uses anodized aluminum casing in its middle. However, the strap is made of rubber. According to the company, the rubber is made of hypo-allergenic material which seems to work as there are minimal, if not no reports of allergic reactions concerning this band’s strap.
Like the UP3’s predecessors, it does not have a display. This may prove to be a disappointment for many as a lot of fitness bands today offer some kind of display. The UP3, and its previous iterations, do not have a screen. Its competitors, the Fitbit Charge HR and the Fitbit Surge, both have their own unique displays. This will allow the device to not only work as a fitness tracker but also as a watch. Other fitness bands also has smartwatch functions such as allowing you to get notifications from your phone.
With the Jawbone UP3 Fitness Band, the only way to check the data being gathered by the wearable tech is through its app. While the app does display pertinent data, it may be cumbersome for some as they would have to pull out their phones from their pockets from time to time to check the information being gathered by the band.
There is now the addition of a heart rate sensor which is located underneath the wearable tech. However, it seems to be affecting the battery life. While the UP2 was advertised to work for up to 10 days, this time around, the UP3 could not even last for more than 4 days on a single charge, even though the advertised battery life was supposed to last for 7 days.
While the Jawbone UP3 is among the best in the fitness band market of today, it just doesn’t justify the heftier price tag. There is no display and it has a shorter battery life. Those who already have the UP2 may opt not to upgrade to the UP3.
