The curved smartphone is back from LG in the form of the new G Flex 2. This “banana” phone was an interesting idea but many were not accustomed to it the first time it came out. The “curved” appearance was certainly welcomed for modern televisions and in other products, but it wasn’t for smartphones. While it was received with some dumbfounded reactions as to why the design of the phone came out the way it is, the look is certainly leaning towards the ergonomic side. The curved look of this smartphone even had more sense than the Samsung Curve. Samsung’s contender for the “banana phones” had a curve from side-to-side whereas LG made it from top-to-bottom. However, its uniqueness may only be its strongest point when you look at what the curved phone has to offer.
The New LG G Flex 2 Could Be More Than Just a Curved Phone
The LG G Flex 2 looks very similar to its predecessor. However, this time around, the company decided to make the mobile phone more compact as it is smaller and lighter. The new phone comes at 7.1 millimeters at its thinnest point and will only weigh 152 grams. Its older brother weighed more with 177 grams when it first came out into markets. The curved aesthetics matches the contours of the face so it makes it easier to handle the smartphone especially for those really long calls. While it is not the main selling point of the new G Flex phone, the idea certainly does make a whole lot of sense. The new curved phone from LG now sports a smaller 5.5-inch screen. The screen size also matches with that of the LG G3. The original G Flex had a 6-inch screen which also made the phone a bit too bulky to be held on one hand. The company stated that the 5.5-inch mark was the sweet spot for real estate and usability.
The pixel density that the screen brings is a bit under modern standards as it comes in with a 403-pixel per inch screen. Still, this is an above average mark and can still cater to many markets. Like the G3, customers can choose between a 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM model, and also a 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage space. A microSD card slot is included, which can expand the memory of the phone for up to 128 GB. The LG G Flex 2 is a great phone even though its curved nature won’t appeal to many people. One of the main downsides, however, is that initial tests have seen that the smartphone has a bit of a laggy performance.
