There are reports floating around the World Wide Web that Apple is now working on a competitor for the Amazon Echo, and that they are hard at work in overhauling their intelligent virtual assistant Siri. Rumor also has it that the Cupertino, California-based tech giant is also adding a microphone and a speaker to the Apple TV, to make it more Amazon Echo-like. The rumor mill is very busy with regards to this particular topic as another report points to the emergence of a Siri API.
There’s a Lot of Information Going on for Siri
Even though it is exciting news to hear that Siri is going to get all these upgrades, even though they are still rumors at the moment, but it does make one question why Apple is focusing on almost imitating features found in other virtual assistants and trying to “one up” them instead of innovating something that will make the crowd go “wow!” It seems that Apple is trying to make a point by trying to beat their rivals at their own game.
But before we move on, let’s talk about Google Home, which is the search engine giant’s take on the Amazon Echo. Google’s tech on this particular category makes much more sense than the rumors floating around Apple’s Siri. For those that do not know about it, it is all about the data. Google Home has been mining, indexing, and ranking data algorithmically for various information found on the World Wide Web for more than a decade now. Because of all the culmination of data, when you do a quick Google search, it can immediately give you specific data even before you hit a link. It can tell you about certain flights, movie showtimes, tell you about a celebrity, track your packages, and many other features.
Apple, on the other hand, does not deal with such a thing as the company is steadfastly focused on putting borders around your stuff. While this is great since privacy and protection is still a big deal when it comes to mobile technology as it is very worrisome to have your information fall into the wrong hands. But it does beg the question, what can they do improve even further?
Simply stating that information being sent and received by Siri will be more secure than ever from different updates will cause some sighs of relief, but it won’t certainly knock everyone’s socks off. That being said, many want the company to innovate on things further, and perhaps we might just see that during the next major Apple event that will take place on September of this year.
