The current generation Ford Fiesta, which is the 2016 Ford Fiesta Hatchback, is already up for 6 model years making it quite an established little road car. For 2016 there’s a few touches on the interior and the exterior to separate the 2016 from older current generation Fiesta’s. 6 years may have passed but the 1.0-liter ecoboost on the top trim Fiesta is still a very peppy engine despite delivering modest performance but delivers a fun experience as well as very high fuel economy.
The 2016 Ford Fiesta Hatchback May be Small, But it is Very Practical
On the outside, the 2016 Ford Fiesta Hatchback hatch retains the signature sporty wedge shape that most Ford hatchbacks are derived from. The wrap around headlights sweep into the front fenders making the car look bigger than it is, the big mouth reminds you of the focus and again makes the car look bigger and sporty as if it needs to gulp all the air to feed the cute ecoboost engine. Talking about the engine, Ford retains the 1.0 liter three cylinder turbo as it delivers optimum performance for the little car at 123hp with 148lb-ft of torque. For the top end Fiesta ST hatch, it’s mated to either a 6 speed manual or a dual clutch transmission that’s kinda sloppy compared to the manual.
Inside, for the 2016 model, Ford replaced the MyFord Touch panel with Ford’s new Sync3 six inch multi-function display. The rest is the same, it retains the soft touch dashboard, quality seat fabrics and generous bolstering. Legroom might be an issue for taller passengers as the front seats do tend to brush up on the rear passenger’s knees. As for cargo space; the hatchback is always the most practical choice versus the sedan as not only does it look good, it offers larger cargo space at the back with the versatility of the folding rear seats to even expand the volume.
Driving the 2016 Fiesta Hatchback is a real treat; it tricks you that it has more performance under the hood and under the wheel wells compared to what’s on paper. That delivers a fun driving experience as it has good steering and suspension tuning. The steering is properly weighted, and the superb suspension makes the car handle responsively and is very nimble and stable.
Even on its sixth year, subtle updates to the interior of the 2016 Ford Fiesta Hatchback keep everything fresh, and crisp. The exterior looks very well proportioned and the hatchback makes the car look especially sporty as if it’s eager to be driven. Great value for the features and performance you get. But for a subcompact hatchback, it certainly is not a very spacious car, opt for the Focus if you need more space. Overall, it delivers solid performance and practicality as an everyday driver or even a fun driver’s car with the ST trim.
