The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is currently the most powerful production road car on the planet at a mind numbing 707hp and 650lb-ft of torque. The Dodge Challenger re-emerged in 2008 to keep up with modern American muscle car demands and ever since its reintroduction, a lot of variants have already been out and for 2015, Dodge really pushed the envelope this time.
The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Commands an Insane Amount of Power and Respect
The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is now a modern classic as it retains much of the character of the original Challenger. The body is big; wide, and long, it doesn’t care where it belongs in the automotive segment, its pure American muscle. Under the hood is an insane 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 churning out 707hp at 6000rpm mated to a very decent performing 8-speed auto with manual shift.
On the inside, materials are high grade, and the controls are easy to use; a far cry from the Challenger from 2008 that had sub-par interior quality. On the center console is Chrysler’sUConnect system which lets you control every setting of the car in one place. Creature comforts include Bluetooth, GPS, backup camera, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, launch control, HID lamps, remote start and more.
Driving the 2015 SRT Hellcat is like a thrill ride, because you spend most of your time keeping the car in control when driving enthusiastically and that’s not yet taking all the 707 horses out. It’s hard to find a backroad to unleash all that power as you’ll simply be running out of road or having a hard time in the corners as this absolute beast of a car is huge and heavy. Corners are met with major understeer and the amount of weight transfer to the front when braking is ridiculous as the car nosedives like a kamikaze. So how about on track? Well, the car is very unruly, push it too far and it becomes too much to control even for experienced drivers. The car demands respect on winding turns and even on straights you need to respect the throttle or else you’ll end up in a sand trap if you’re lucky.
The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, however, a bit too much too handle for the average driver I say this because it’s easy to get a hold of the Hellcat given its starting price. Drive it normally and you’re fine; the Hellcat a good road car. But unleash the 707 horses and you’ve got a very wild muscle car in your hands. Drive responsively.
