The Corsair K70 RGB Rapidfire, along with the K70 Rapidfire and the K65 RGB Rapidfire, will now feature Cherry MX Speed switches. These new switches are able to actuate at a 1.2-millimeter distance as compared to the standard Cherry MX switch found at 2-millimeters. This is for gamers who want to take advantage of mechanical keyboards but do want keys that are a bit “faster.”
Corsair K70 RGB Rapidfire Now Has Cherry MX Keys
If you think that installing Cherry MX keys on the Corsair K70 RGB Rapidfire, K65 RGB Rapidfire, and the K70 Rapidfire would be anything but silly, then perhaps you might want to rethink your thoughts after reading this. When you put three gamers inside a room, they would soon delve into the topic of keyboard-switch preferences just as the way people who are into shoes in talking about their favorite brand of sneakers and how they are scientifically-engineered.
Because of the new Cherry MX switches, the aforementioned Corsair keyboards feature a 45-gram switch force. This is the lightest force that you can get in a Cherry MX switch. This, in addition to the 1.2-millimter actuation point, will theoretically reduce the actuation point and reduce the force render which makes the Rapidfire series’ keys a lot easier to press and it makes for a faster response.
There might be those that would think that “what would it matter anyway as you’re just going to hit a keyboard key to input a command, right?” Well, for those that are thinking such things, you’re not wrong. However, to gamers, it is a whole different story. The speed in which a keyboard responds to commands and inputs could spell life and death in a lot of games. For example, if you’re playing DOTA 2 (which is a very popular multiplayer online battle arena), then a single key press can spell the difference between life and death. Therefore, a very short time is all it takes between certain victory and utmost defeat.
Aside from the switches, the Corsair K70 RGB Rapidfire, along with the other two keyboards, also received other changes. For one, the keyboard backlighting has now been made brighter as the company increased the size of the etched characters found on the keys. Furthermore, Corsair has moved the keys’ position closer towards the underlying LEDs. Hence, more light will be reflected onto the base of the keyboard as well. The company also added a much-requested feature which is a USB port pass-through found on the back of the units.
