3D Touch may be an innovative tool that was introduced with the latest iPhone models, the feature is nothing more than an omnipresent functionality that developers have no reason to have made it other than the purpose of being nothing more than an Easter egg.
The 3D Touch is Nothing More Than an Easter Egg, at Least for Now
But there are some redeeming qualities about the 3D Touch feature, and not everyone hates it a lot. As a matter of fact, there are some iPhone users that make full use of the functionality. One place within the new iPhones that the feature is seen to be more useful is the Quick Launch menu that will appear on individual apps.
This Quick Launch feature is a new functionality that makes the Home screen on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus more useful than ever before. However, it is still extremely limited as it will only display a few options. Many prefer the drop down menu to be more dynamic. For example, using the Apple 3D Touch feature on the MLB At Bat icon will let you see your favorite team’s current score, then you could jump in on the action by streaming the audio and/or video of the game.
However, there are many who are still disappointed that you cannot use the feature on the icons located in the Control Center and the Camera icon. For the latter icon, the feature would be more useful if it would offer the same functionalities as the Camera app itself. For instance, pressing longer on the icon will reveal a drop down menu that will allow you take a selfie with your chosen preset settings to snap that perfect moment.
It would also make sense of the 3D Touch functionality can be used in more areas around the phone. For instance, if you would use it on the phone’s wallpaper, it should offer a quick link to the Wallpaper section of the Settings app.
Although the tech giant is puffing their chests as they are the first one to make the technology into a reality for their smartphones, it feels lacking in a lot of aspects. Many are even skeptical about its utility and would rather do away with the feature as it is deemed pretty much useless.
Nevertheless, it may still be too early to say all of this as 3D Touch may have more in store for iPhone 6s and 6s Plus users in future updates. At the time of writing, this particular feature adds little to no value for the phones.
