2016 Peugeot 308 GTi 270 Review – Powerful Performance With Unique Looks

The official name of the 2016 Peugeot 308 GTi 270 is 2016 Peugeot 308 GTi by Peugeot Sport. It is a clumsy indication that the car manufacturer’s motorsports division has been required to deliver something that needs to be more thrilling in the line of lackluster GTis that has followed that 1980s and 1990s models. This might pull off some expectations that it will be an old rally replica, but the vehicle is not that.

2016 Peugeot 308 GTi 270 Review - Powerful Performance With Soft Looks

Don’t Let the Design of the 2016 Peugeot 308 GTi 270 Fool You

As for its looks, the 2016 Peugeot 308 GTi 270 is as subtle as a different colored brick on a uniformly-colored wall. The paint job is certainly a unique one as the car has a two-tone paint job. The diagonally split two-tone color makes it look as if the car is a red 308 GTi has been attached and welded to a gray one at its back.

But with a single-tone color scheme, the car is distinguishable by its modest body kit and 19-inch wheels. This is when you are looking at the vehicle from quite a distance. But when you get close enough to the new Peugeot 308 GTi 270, you will see that the wheels hide vast brake rotors that are gripped by intense-looking Alcon calipers at the front.

This means that there is no lack of firepower in this vehicle despite its architecture (and unique paint job). Its firepower is best seen with its engine as it is a heavily revised version of the 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that has powered the previous generation Mini Cooper S. This engine has friction-reducing polymer-coated bearings and forged Mahle pistons that allow it to achieve 266 horsepower at 6000 rpm.

The power then goes to the car’s front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission gearbox and a Torsen limited-slip differential. Physics is also a great ally of the GTi 270 as it has a strikingly svelte curb weight of approximately 2,700 pounds. This gives it a power-to-weight ratio that is similar to the Civic Type R’s.

Driving experience is what can be expected of a French vehicle. You will never have any doubts upon driving it as the car is small and highly boosted due to the engine being lagged down low. When driving over broken surfaces, the car is still able to handle well. The brakes have a very generous boost and the gearshift has a long throw.

Even with the uniqueness of the color combination of the 2016 Peugeot 308 GTi 270, one should not judge it immediately by its looks alone. Driving performance and power will exceed expectations.
