Xiro Xplorer G Review – GoPro Owners Take Note

Published: 27 May 2016Updated: 28 May 2016

Those who own GoPro action cameras that are also in search of a quadcopter should pay close attention to the Xiro Xplorer G. It is a drone that has an architecture that is more compact than its rivals. Furthermore, it has the ability to fly high and far, while still being able to keep the same safety features as well as a GPS-stabilized flight (which is larger, by the way) that higher-end models have. This particular drone does not ship with its own camera, that’s why you would have to supply your own GoPro Hero3 or Hero4. Even though it doesn’t have its own camera, its overall performance does make it a solid choice.

Xiro Xplorer G Review – GoPro Owners Take Note

The Xiro Xplorer G Does Not Ship With its Own Action Camera

The Xiro Xplorer G is the same type of aircraft as that of the Xplorer V. Instead of having an integrated camera right off the bat, it does include its own gimbal which can fit the recent GoPro cameras, which includes the Hero4 Black. For those who do not want to use the gimbal (for whatever reason), it is removable.

This particular drone is designed in such a way that it is extremely easy to remove or install your GoPro action camera. So in theory, users are able to slide the camera in from the side. However, the integrated USB port, which is used in order to transmit video from the GoPro, does not line up perfectly with the camera right out of the box. Users are able to make the connection a proper one but some pressure is advised.

The Xplorer G comes with dimensions that measure in 6 x 15.7 x 15.7-inches and it is bigger than that of the Parrot Bebop. Nevertheless, it is able to fly at higher altitudes than many of its rivals within the same price class. It also weighs 2.2-pounds, which means that you still need to register it with the FAA prior to flying it outdoors in the United States.

When it comes to video quality, the experience depends on what type of GoPro action camera you use on the Xiro Xplorer G. For instance, if you flew the quadcopter with the GoPro Hero4 Black, you will be able to record 4K footage with it. This particular drone is indeed a compelling one for GoPro users. However, those who don’t own such an action camera or does not plan to purchase one, then it might be best to look somewhere else.
