Starbucks would be, perhaps, the last company to have their very own keyboard app, let alone one that is literally filled with emojis. The coffee chain just recently released their very first consumer-facing app which is solely focused on nothing but entertainment rather than letting their customers try out new coffee brews. The keyboard app lets you text coffees, teas, and there’s even one that’s a purple unicorn holding a Starbucks beverage.

This particular Starbucks app is not released under the company’s name on Google Play or on the Apple App Store, but it was instead developed in partnership with a third party which is Snaps Media. The third party developer works with a number of other brands who have launched their very own emoji or keyboard apps. These companies have either do not have the time or inclination to have built the apps themselves.
The client list of Snaps Media includes an array of media companies such as BET, MTV, TCM, VH1, and even Nickelodeon. It has also worked with sports teams, as well as TV shows and films like Hotel Transylvania 2, Deadpool, Broad City, Workaholics, and Portlandia. Other than these companies, Snaps Media also worked with a large number of brands which include Victoria’s Secret, Coca-Cola, Sour Patch Kids, and Dove just to name a few.
Like the Starbucks emoji keyboard app, the apps that were made by Snaps Media have niche install bases at best. For the popular coffee chain, the brand is already famous enough to have already inspired dozens of other app developers to use their name in an effort to advertise their very own app creations on the App Store or in Google Play.
When you type in the coffee company’s name in Google Play or in the Apple App Store, it will return with dozens of “secret menu” apps. There are also store finders, coupon finders, and a bunch of others. This might have led the company to think, “Why not create an emoji keyboard?”
This is the very first time that Starbucks has ever introduced an emoji keyboard for mobile use, as what a spokesperson from the company had confirmed. The famous coffee company announced the existence of their new app on Monday, and it promises that there will be new content that would arrive on said app throughout the year.
