Many were not impressed with the number of new tech Sony had to offer during CES 2016, but that doesn’t mean that they’re not of high quality like the Sony PS-HX500 Turntable. When talking about this turntable, well, it is essentially a record player but with a cool feature – it can transfer the tunes from a vinyl record to your computer in a hi-res audio format.
The Sony PS-HX500 Turntable Brings the Revival of Vinyl Records in Full Swing
When you take a look at the Sony PS-HX500 Turntable in pictures, it will look great. However, it looks even better up close. It retains that classic record player look which many would want in such a device. It is made in a complete black color with minimal angled corners and straight sides. It is mostly free of dials except from a small selector tucked in a corner.
If you peel off the gold “Hi-Res Audio” sticker (which you can’t), this could then immediately be mistaken as any other turntable that’s already out in the market. However, this hi-res audio branding is what sets the PS-HX500 Turntable apart from the competition.
Found at its back is a USB port to plug the unit into your computer. It is compatible with Windows and Mac PCs. Also, with Sony’s new backup software, users are able to transfer old, or even new records then save then in a Hi-Res Audio format.
Upon saving audio, the Japanese tech giant gives you two choices: (1) is to import in Sony’s own DSD format, or (@) as a 24-bit WAV file. Both file types are supported by the company’s own line of Hi-Res Audio Walkmans. Therefore, you can easily transfer the tunes that have been converted to your Sony Walkman on the go.
With this device, Sony aims to bring back the glory days of the turntable but bring it to the 21st century. This is especially useful (and makes much more sense) with older recordings that are fairly difficult to find in uncompressed formats. For instance, if you are to take a good long search for good quality downloads of tracks that are from way back, then you would be hard-pressed to find them. But if you do have your old vinyl records lying around your home and would want to turn them into a more accessible, hi-res digital format, then with the PSHX500 you can.
The Sony PS-HX500 Turntable is for music lovers who are into vinyl and would want an easier and more modern way to transfer their favorite tunes into a computer or other media device, then this unit is a fantastic solution.
