Pi Lab Edwin the Duck Review – Your Smart Rubber Ducky

At first glance, Pi Lab Edwin the Duck looks like your ordinary rubber duck in which kids of all ages bring with them during bathing sessions. But this is not your usual rubber ducky as it is an interactive, waterproof smart toy. It can connect to a compatible smart phone or tablet for numerous activities. You, or your child, can do sing-alongs, play games, or even do stories. It can even act as a night light for kids, or as a white-noise machine for everyone in the family.

Pi Lab Edwin the Duck Review - Your Smart Rubber Ducky

The Pi Lab Edwin the Duck is Not Your Ordinary Rubber Duck

Pi Lab Edwin the Duck, at its core, is a very charming smart toy. It provides educational entertainment but it does have its fair share of downsides, namely its price. It has a rather hefty price tag and does not offer much out of the box.

It is a smart toy made out of child-safe and friendly silicone. It weighs about 7.2-ounces and measures in at 3.9 x 2.9 x 3.7-inches for its dimensions. Therefore, it is appropriately sized and weighted for kid’s hands.

On the right side of Pi Lab Edwin is a heart-shaped Power button, which is a simple but nice touch. It also indicates when Edwin is charging or when it is paired with a phone or a tablet. It will flash green when in pairing mode, yellow to indicate that it is low on battery, or red when it has been successfully connected with a compatible mobile device. Users can hold the heart button down to light the duck’s head. This will also signify if the toy is turned on or off.

In its packaging, it comes with a round, green stand and a micro-USB cord. When you connect the micro-USB cable to the stand and plug it in, all you need to do is place Edward in the charging dock to, well, charge it. Edwin’s head will flash green when placed on the charger.

To get the most out of this smart rubber ducky, you need to download the Free Edwin the Duck app which is downloadable for either iOS or Android devices. There’s also another app which is called Edwin’s Sleepy Time, which is basically a night-light and white-noise feature for the toy.

Pi Lab Edwin the Duck is a very neat toy for kids but it does need more activities for children. While the company promises more content coming soon, kids might get bored early as the same ones are offered over and over until the new activities will arrive.
