Klipsch Reference R6i Review – Drop the Bass

Published: 30 November 2015Updated: 12 December 2015

There is a current trend in the on-ear headphones market tend to take pride in bringing more bass to those who like it, and that is especially true for the Klipsch Reference R6i. However, the R6i brings a relatively low “thunder” even though it is advertised to have booming bass. Its bass levels are complemented with a high-mid and high frequency audio to produce a more balanced sound. This way, users are still able to take heed of the deepened bass levels while still being able to wear the headphones comfortably.

Klipsch Reference R6i Review - Drop the Bass

The Klipsch Reference R6i Has a Deep Bass and Balanced Sound

If you are planning to get a flashy headphone, then you won’t find that look in the Klipsch Reference R6i. Perhaps the only deviations in this device are some metallic-colored trims, and the company’s logo which can be found on either earcups. Overall, you get a standard matte-black audio listening device with as much visual appeal as a lone brick.

But instead of heft that you can find in a brick, you get a lightweight device. It is even exceptionally comfortable to wear as it features plush cushioning which can be found beneath the headband and right underneath the supra-aural earpads.

There is a central multifunction button that will control playback, call management, and track navigation. There are also dedicated volume buttons, which does away with the need for an “all-in-one” button that other headphones have.

As for performance, tracks that have a powerful sub-bass content, the Klipsch Reference R6i headphones delivers a bass-forward rumble that will appeal to audiophiles who like to listen to audio with boosted lows. At its top (which are unwise listening levels), the audio does not distort, which is a huge plus. Lastly, at moderate levels, the low frequency levels can still be noticeable as it is still quite powerful.

Audio performance on the R6i does promote boosted lows while still being able to deliver a balanced audio output by increased mids and frequency presence.

The Klipsch Reference R6i is an excellent pair of headphones that won’t hurt your wallet too much. Those who are looking for a bit of bass in their audio but still want to keep things balanced, this is the audio listening device to go. That is, if you don’t mind the extremely plain appeal of the device then you’re good to go. The R6i is for those who take more pride in listening experience rather than visual appeal.
